Lumen’s new College Success course will be delivered in Lumen One, a new platform that brings together the best of Lumen’s teaching & learning solutions including a full suite of professional development resources to support evidence-based teaching.
College Success is designed to help students build confidence about their professional future in a rapidly evolving society. Students will build foundational and transferable knowledge, skills, and abilities in order to succeed in their other classes, their major, and their future career.
Students will engage with strategies to:
- Recognize the responsible use of A.I., including how it can assist them and how to avoid plagiarism
- Build a growth mindset about the necessary skills for a successful college experience
- Formulate a working self-knowledge of test-taking, financial management, critical thinking, learning, and studying
- Navigate the personal responsibility of being in college, such as how to choose a major, how to access campus resources, and why student life and campus organizations help with belonging
- Gain opportunities to engage in self-analysis, reflection, career exploration, goal setting, time management, learning strategies, and navigating health management
The course utilizes interactive content and practice with immediate feedback to maximize student understanding and retention. Every learning outcome includes practice questions that will help engage students to test their understanding. The instructor resources package is robust and includes easy-to-use, engaging slide decks, and in-class activities, with suggested modifications based on the modality of the course.

Combining the best features across Lumen, Lumen One is the first courseware product built with a focus on equity. With support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Lumen One was developed to promote equitable outcomes in gateway courses. Lumen One’s unique features are specifically designed to boost participation, engagement, and overall learning to ensure success for all students.
